The February 2019 show did not only come dripping in gold and glamour by way of strong shoulder pads, bodysuits in different prints, diamonds & gems, bold statement accessories, and fierce looks across the board but it also came with surprise runway stars from the likes of Paris Hilton, Karrueche Tran, Jillian Hervey, Aquaria, and Lil Kim. Truly one of the most anticipated shows of NYFW, The Blonds create a spectacle not only because they are known for their show-stopping runway looks but also because they put on one of the best performances of the season.

From Backstage to Runway: Li-Ning

February 12, 2019

As China's premier sports brand, Li-Ning, named after celebrated gymnast Mr. Li-Ning took to the runway with their take on sportswear focusing on utilitarian pieces with a modern twist while still being heavily influenced by Chinese craftsmanship. For this season, the collection focused on "life as an experience within three worlds -- the city, the country, and the journey between the two".

First Looks: Alice and Olivia

February 12, 2019

Step into the world of fantasy where only the mind of Stacey Bendet can take you. Always known for transporting us to a different fantastical world every season, Bendet certainly delivered and exceeded expectations as she created a world that was similar to a magical forest filled with golden mushrooms, rainbow colored trees, rose-filled rooms, and a winter wonderland. Aside from the glamorous set design, her clothes also stole the show as she offered rich and colorful textures by way of sequins, velvets, ruffles, silks, feathers, and what have you. One thing's for sure, NYFW is never complete without having to see an Alice and Olivia presentation -- and that's a fact.

Designer Highlight: Rebecca Minkoff

February 11, 2019

Making her way back to the runways of NYFW, Rebecca Minkoff truly shines through as her latest RTW collection with a see-now-buy-now approach fantastically displays her alluring play in colors and silhouettes that focus on strong shoulders, cinched waists, and dramatic layering that powerfully displays strength and confidence that embodies the modern woman.

Backstage Peep: Bibhu Mohapatra

Runway Highlight: Adeam

February 9, 2019

Hanako Maeda is proud of her Japanese roots which is why her collection was inspired by the indigenous people of Ainu from Hokkaido. Amidst the rising need for technology, the FW collection focuses on the intersection between nature and craftsmanship that's heavily attributed to the Ainu who live closely to mother nature.

#LovePapyrus: Scene-Stealing Accessories at NYFW

February 9, 2019

This season, Papyrus reimagines NYFW: The Shows by focusing on all the small details. It's all about the accessories this season where fashion mavens make their way into the venues whilst trotting along their one-of-a-kind totes all thanks to #LovePapyrus

First Looks: Jeremy Scott

February 9, 2019

Jeremy Scott's February 2019 runway show didn't have the colors and pizzazz a Jeremy Scott runway is always known for but it did have a clear and loud message: taking aim at media consumption and fake news. The runway was smeared with black & white frocks that came in a flurry of layered tulle skirts, party dresses, tux tailed jackets, puffer coats, complete with oversized berets and bows atop.

In Focus: Glemaud FW '19

February 8, 2019

Presentation produced by IMG Focus. Photos by Caroline Cuse.

Victor Glemaud introduces his FW'19 collection which focuses on the "feeling of autumnal bliss", says the designer. The collection is bright, fun, airy, and relaxed - all of which embody his muse, Indya Moore, who came to the presentation to see the photos shot by Richie Shazam.

Designer Spotlight: Cushnie

February 8, 2019

Photos by Jane Kim

The second season of Cushnie sans Ochs has become a favorite amongst many as the oftentimes referred to as a hyper-feminine brand with its signature cut and style took a more softer approach with plush velvet draping and soft silk fabrics cascading through the runway. Needless to say, Carly Cushnie is stamping her own brand and proves that Cushnie has nowhere to go but up.

Take it from us when we say a much needed change is a must in the fashion industry. Not only is the luxury e-commerce giant regarded as one of the most size-inclusive brands out there but they also had an outstanding model cast with the likes of Laverne Cox, Candice Huffine, Stella Duval, and many more who take their own global platforms to spread body positivity to the community. The runway show, which featured stunning silhouettes in an array of colors and styles, included pieces from NYFW designers such as Prabal Gurung, Jonathan Simkhai, Cushnie, and Brandon Maxwell that now carries a range of 12-18 sizing that was previously unavailable to their customers.

Aside from 11 Honoré taking the reins on being the most iconic and record-breaking runway show in the NYFW stage in terms of size-inclusivity and diversity, they also partnered with Shopify to deliver a one-of-a-kind shopping experience to its guests while the runway show was taking place.

December in New York can be cold, gray, and dreary, but Victor Glemaud’s pre-fall 2019 collection was anything but.

A 1970s tropical dream, Glemaud drew inspiration from Tim Lawrence’s book, Love Saves the Day, which examined New York’s 1970s dance culture, and called back to his Caribbean roots to create bright and vibrant knits in beachy sillhouttes.

by Alithea Castillo

Photos by Moeez Ali

Born in 2015, STAUD by Sarah Staudinger has quickly amassed a following via Instagram that has made all fashion insiders clamor for her modern yet feminine take on the contemporary tote. Widely known for her Shirley PVC bag and Moreau bucket bag, it has risen to fame quite so rapidly that every editor and influencer owns a bag or three.

With only 3 years since its founding, STAUD set up its first ever NYFW show and certainly did not disappoint. The collection focused on whimsical and quirky designs that was an ode to mod: crochet, macrame, plaid, and color-blocked outfits that came in hues of green, blue, & yellow pastels down to white billowy dresses and camel toned trenches. The spotlight of the show certainly came in the form of its accessories as the new bags for SS19 not only offered a new take on STAUD favorites but a few bags also came in different shapes & architectural designs which is new yet refreshing for the young designer.

Backstage to Runway: Zimmermann

September 11, 2018

by Alithea Castillo

Paying homage to the hit Australian show Number 96, the collection played around with the idea of 70s fashion with a touch of what Zimmermann is known for - bohemian sexy chic. Although it has foregone all the ruffles and florals the designers are known for, this season's pieces are still widely feminine and focuses on silhouettes that still make a Zimmermann girl feel empowered.

by Alithea Castillo

Without a doubt street style stars are here to create a statement coming in the form of their clothes or even accessories. Case in point: designer shoes that make the streets of New York a little more green with envy as they stomp the NYFW concrete runway.

Designer Spotlight: Rodarte

September 10, 2018

by Alithea Castillo

Rain nor shine could have prevented the Rodarte show to prevail and leave its mark as the sibling duo came back to the runways - or in this case, Marble Cemetery's concrete pavements - of NYFW. After a 2-year hiatus, Kate and Laura sent down the runway a flurry of heavy tulle, metallics, sequins, ruffles, lace, and everything that a true Rodarte piece has been known for. The collection exuded romance and elegance one can only situate in a bevy of daydreams that intertwined with fairytales only to come to know that this collection has embodied a reality one can only hope for.

Runway Highlights: Prabal Gurung

September 9, 2018

Prabal Gurung wastes no time to challenge the mainstream media to embrace culture other than that of a westernized one. For his September 2018 collection, he shines light on his Nepalese roots via his set design and his collection's vivid colors. Seeing it as a whole, the collection encourages more of the sportswear silhouette having a lot of the womenswear pieces with cutouts and pull cords to cling to their bodies and menswear, a first for Gurung, with windbreakers and knee-length bottoms.

As recent events have sparked an international interest on Asian representation, she feels that her collection not only contributes to this but also touches a personal narrative that sends forth a message to the industry that Asians also have a place in fashion, as is everywhere else.

First Look: Jonathan Simkhai

September 8, 2018

by Alithea Castillo

Photos by Moeez Ali

Gone were the slinky body-hugging dresses Jonathan Simkhai is well-known for and in comes ethereal prairie numbers that were reminiscent of a 60s garden party with crochet and cotton dresses, cargo pants paired with flowy tops, and a color palette that ran through the shades of pastel and cream whites. It was indeed a more relaxed and intimate presentation as models were sent down a lavish greenery setting mingling with each other and fashion insiders being able to see all the lush details in each design.

Known for his textures and asymmetrical cuts, Han Chong has taken it up the notch by introducing vibrant patterns and prints to his craft. Seen from his front row, the usual favorites for Self-Portrait donned in playful ruffles and lace -- his collection on the other hand displayed more than what has been seen in recent seasons. More color, more prints, and a surprising display of textures by way of knitted and crocheted pieces sashayed through the runway.

Runway Highlights: Jeremy Scott

September 6, 2018

by Alithea Castillo

Video by Happy Monday

Not to anyone's surprise Jeremy Scott has yet again proved that his collections, although out of this world, would continually evoke conversation over its over the top & well thought-out design. Back in February, his looks went to the future with sci-fi written all over it. This season however, he goes back to the past and pays homage to none other than Jeremy Scott himself, teen years. References to the 90s aesthetic of club-kid neon, glitter, grunge, and bold letters were all evident in his collection.
