Adam Selman studied Fashion Design at Pratt Institute in New York, and after his 2004 graduation, began freelancing in design and pattern making. He worked for Zaldy at L.A.M.B and the designer’s own eponymous label, creating custom looks and world tours for the likes of Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, RuPaul, Mick Jagger and Mary J. Blige. Selman was also a freelance pattern maker, prop maker, and the art director for Amy Sedaris’s craft book “Simple Times,” and created tours for The Scissor Sisters, Sufjan Stevens and Rihanna, with whom he began working in 2011. Since then, Selman has created over 100 custom looks for Rihanna, and co-designed her first clothing collection with U.K. retailer River Island. In 2013, Selman decided he was ready for a new challenge, and so he debuted his own collection, ADAM SELMAN. He has also continued to create custom pieces and successful world tours for Rihanna, including her iconic sheer crystal dress for the 2014 CFDA Fashion Award, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Lorde and many others while maintaining, growing and stabilizing his own label.
