TOME is a New York based every-womanswear brand founded in 2011 by Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo. Lobo and Martin met in 1998 while studying Fashion at the University of Technology Sydney. Martin went on to develop his design aesthetic with spells at Alberta Ferretti, Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Atelier, J. Mendel and Derek Lam. Lobo worked as a designer buyer, stylist, journalist and brand consultant in Australia.
TOME embodies the pair’s collective experience in a line that is practical and straightforward – clear cut, essential dressing. Form follows function, and every TOME piece is infinitely wearable with luxurious yet functional fabrications and interesting combinations of color and texture.
Each season the designers choose female artists as muse to influence their take on wardrobe staples such as the white shirt, the trench coat, the culotte and the camisole dress.
TOME was amongst the finalists at the prestigious CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund in 2013 and has presented collections at NYFW since the beginning of that year.
In 2014 TOME launched The White Shirt Project, a philanthropic venture with Freedom For All, a foundation that fights human trafficking and modern day slavery. TOME utilized one of their classic styles—the white shirt—as a vehicle to raise funds and awareness for social and environmental justice.
TOME dove further into ethical fashion in 2015 through their participation in the CFDA + Lexus Fashion* Initiative. Beside the obvious first steps of choosing sustainable fabrics and reducing waste, TOME has since reexamined internal practices, monitored their supply chain and conducted periodic check-in at their factories. Safeguarding the women who work for them is an important part of TOME’s sustainability tenets.
TOME is stocked throughout the USA, Asia, The Middle East and Australia. Stockists include Net-A-Porter, Moda Operandi, Saks Fifth Avenue Avenue and TENOVERSIX.
