Yajun Melody Lin was born in Nanjing China, grew up in Vancouver and Los Angeles, later moved to New York and studied at Parsons the New School. In 2016, Melody won the Kering X Vogue competition and had the opportunity to visit companies and fabric innovation labs under Kering. Her collection was featured on Vogue.com as well at the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue. After the Kering competition, one of the judge: stylist Mel Otternberg decided to dress Rihanna during her performance in the VMAs with Melody’s design. Yajun was born in a Male Chauvinism family where her father take all decisions in the house. He would explain YAJUN in the definition of “second place” (a word that sounds similar in Chinese), because he thinks that the male in the house would always be dominating. While growing up Yajun would alway fight against that, with her actions she would always want to prove her own abilities. She would define her name as “YA“ means elegant, refined feminine and “Jun“ means gentleman; the more masculine side of the brand. This brand’s goal is to break the boundaries and expectation in garment construction. Creating a image of a classy but rebellious girl.. The rebellious girl here means that she is open to try new things and explore the extremes in life.
