Ruby or Not Ruby

Jiarui (Ruby) Cai is a Chinese Streetwear fashion designer. She attended Cal State Fullerton as an Accounting major before transferring to FIDM to study Fashion Design in 2019. The reason for Ruby to pursue a creative, fulfilling life within the fashion world came from her passion for Hip-Hop dance. Most of her designs have oversize silhouettes and bold color choices.

Becoming a psychologist also is one of her dreams when she was a child because Ruby felt pleasure when she used her energy to influence others and make people feel joyful. That dream did not come true. However, she uses her collections to make all people feel playful. Ruby had three runway experiences; many collections look more beautiful than hers. Her collection is the one that received the most laughter.

This collection is inspired by the novel "The Moon and Sixpence." It is loosely based on the life of French artist Paul Gauguin. The hero is a well-off, middle-class stockbroker; however, he gave up a comfortable life and went to Paris to start painting. He lives a destitute but definitely content life. That relates to her personal story from an accountant to a fashion designer.

This collection, "The Moon and Sixpence," is idealistic. Ruby has a dream; all people have their own dream. It may not be easy to keep and maintain. But as the brand name "Ruby Or Not Ruby" - "To be or not to be." That is an attitude. Keep your passion and just do it.

"All over the place was sixpence, but he looked up at the moon" is the favorite reading response from all the readers; Ruby used all the elements from this sentence and created this collection.
